Engineering Manager: MCA Embedded Finance - South Africa

Role Summary

Engineering Manager for the South Africa MCA (Merchant Cash Advance) team at GoTymeX.

Responsible for people leadership, delivery, and engineering quality across teams, building lending and embedded finance platforms. This is a hands-on leadership role (not IC) working closely with Product and MCA leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coach engineering teams to deliver high-quality, reliable software
• Own delivery execution, sprint planning, and engineering standards
• Partner closely with Product, Architecture, and business stakeholders in South Africa
• Drive the technical roadmap aligned with MCA and TymeX strategy
• Oversee system design decisions and manage trade-offs between speed and quality
• Ensure code quality, testing, CI/CD, and engineering best practices
• Manage technical debt and platform scalability
• Support incident management and production stability
• Build a strong, self-sufficient engineering culture

People & Management

• Hire, develop, and retain high-performing engineers (team size up to ~20)
• Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and career development
• Manage team capacity and resource planning
• Establish on-call and incident response practices

MCA Domain Responsibilities

• Deliver systems for partner onboarding, loan origination, collections, and portfolio management
• Support business goals including growth, portfolio quality, and partner experience
• Ensure compliance, security, and scalability of financial systems

Requirements

Experience Required

• 10+ years software experience, 4+ years in engineering leadership
• Strong experience in Agile, SDLC, and modern engineering practices
• Proven leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
• Hands-on ability to support debugging and technical decision-making
• Experience in fintech or regulated environments is a plus
