About the role
Position Summary
As a 3D Designer/CAD Draftsman at Redfish Productions, you'll turn creative concepts into buildable event designs — corporate activations, concerts and tours, trade show exhibits, and custom fabrications. Client-facing, you'll produce 3D modeling and rendering, CAD build documents, layouts and plans, and graphic design for proposals and collateral. Internally, you'll help keep Redfish's own website and social media as polished as the events we produce. This role starts as a 90-day contract, working closely with producers, technical directors, and vendors; based on performance and fit, we expect to transition the right candidate to a full-time role at the end of that period.

Our core values: These are the backbone of our business and guide our hiring process: we are inspirational, disciplined, accountable, transparent, aligned, and results oriented. This company operates nationally and is growing.
Performance Objectives
- Model event concepts, builds, and layouts — corporate activations, concerts/tours, trade show exhibits, and custom installations — in SketchUp, Vectorworks, Rhino, or AutoCAD, following creative concepts, site surveys, and client KPIs.
- Produce photorealistic renders and walkthroughs using PBR workflows in Chaos V-Ray, Enscape, or Unreal Engine so clients can approve a design with confidence before anything is built.
- Draft precise CAD documents for custom event elements — site plans, staging layouts, deck plates, truss and rigging plots, and ISOs — following the ANSI E1.2 (truss and towers) and E1.21 (temporary structures) standards used across the live event and entertainment industry.
- Collaborate with producers, technical directors, and account teams through client review rounds, keeping shared project files current so build and site teams are always working from the latest version.
- Calculate rigging point loads and dead/live loads for temporary structures per ANSI E1.2/E1.21 and venue or fire-marshal requirements, flagging anything that needs engineer sign-off.
- Right-size model detail for the audience — lightweight files for client walkthroughs on-site, full-detail drawings for the fabrication shop — so nothing bogs down on a laptop at load-in.
- Apply client branding, color, and thematic elements consistently across renders, proofs, and printed collateral.
- Produce fabrication-ready drawings with dimensions, annotations, and a bill of materials following ASME Y14.5 drafting conventions so build shops and vendors can quote and build accurately.
- Run internal and client-facing design reviews, folding feedback into revised layouts ahead of build and site work.
- Recommend reusable, rentable, or lower-waste materials where it fits the design, in line with ISO 20121 event sustainability principles.
- Coordinate with fabrication vendors and CNC shops, delivering DWG, DXF, or STEP files in whatever format each vendor needs.
- Run clash detection across scenic, rigging, AV, and structural elements to catch conflicts before they reach the build floor or the site.
- Keep design decisions and revision history documented in the project folder so producers and account managers can answer client questions without pulling in design staff.
- Stay current on rendering and real-time design tools (including AI-assisted rendering) and bring relevant new tools to the team.
- Design client-facing graphics and collateral — proposals, credentials decks, signage, and show documents — that carry Redfish's brand and adapt cleanly to each client's brand.
- Support internal marketing by producing graphics and content for Redfish's website and social media channels, keeping our own online presence as polished as the events we produce.
Core Competencies
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software (SketchUp, Vectorworks, Rhino, or Cinema 4D), with a portfolio that shows event, exhibit, or stage design work — not just architectural or product renders.
- Advanced CAD drafting (AutoCAD, Vectorworks Spotlight/Design, or Fusion 360), including parametric modeling for trussing, staging, and custom scenic builds.
- Working graphic design skills (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or Canva) for client-facing proposals and collateral, plus website and social content.
- Working knowledge of event production logistics: load-in/load-out sequencing, crowd flow, ADA-accessible routes, and AV/lighting integration.
- Sharp attention to detail and problem-solving under fixed, date-driven deadlines — in this industry, the show date doesn't move.
- Comfortable collaborating with producers, technical directors, and outside vendors, and incorporating client notes quickly and without ego.
- Familiarity with entertainment-industry safety standards (ANSI E1.2/E1.21 rigging and structures, ADA accessibility) and a safety-first approach to temporary structures.
- A creative eye for turning a client brief or mood board into a design that's both on-brand and actually buildable.
- Skilled at simulating real-world lighting, materials, and physics to help a design sell itself before it's built.
- Able to juggle multiple concurrent events in a fast-paced, contract-based environment with shifting deadlines.
- Genuine curiosity about new 3D and rendering tools and how they can speed up the design-to-approval process.
- Able to work in a shop environment, lift up to 25 lbs, and sit at a workstation for extended periods; reasonable accommodations are available.
