About the role
Position Overview
This is a dynamic, multi-faceted position designed for a self-motivated individual who thrives in an autonomous environment. You will be the power behind our documentation, tracking, and initial client interactions. Over time, you will learn all aspects of our business to accurately generate, format, and finalize proposals and technical reports. Additionally, you will lead the charge in implementing AI tools to optimize our report-generation pipelines, improve proposal consistency, and track project timelines. This role bridges the gap between technical communication and front-office operations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Writing & AI Implementation
- Proposal & Report Generation: Write, format, and finalize comprehensive proposals, project estimates, and technical reports for geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and environmental services.
- AI Leadership: Evaluate, select, and integrate cutting-edge AI tools to streamline our writing processes, establishing structured templates and prompt workflows from the ground up.
- Critical Evaluation: Analyze and critique complex source materials, field data, and AI-assisted drafts to ensure strict technical accuracy, appropriate tone, and logical consistency.
- Diverse Content Creation: Handle documentation spanning a wide array of disciplines, including Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), endangered species surveys, wetland delineations, and archaeological/cultural resource evaluations.
Operations & Front-Desk Management
- Client Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact by answering phones, routing inquiries, and maintaining professional, responsive communication with clients. This is the critical initial level for proposal & report searching previously mentioned.
- Project Timeline Tracking: Monitor, track, and manage proposal statuses, revisions, and project timelines to ensure no deadlines are missed.
- Business Synthesis: Actively learn the nuances of our service lines to independently synthesize technical, legal, and government standards into successful project bids.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 2–5 years of professional writing experience (technical writing, copywriting, or proposal drafting).
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Strong research capabilities and a meticulous eye for grammar, syntax, and style consistency.
- Demonstrated capability to work independently in a small-business setting.
- Tech-savvy mindset with a deep interest or experience in leveraging AI tools for efficiency.
Preferred:
- Experience writing specifically for the engineering, environmental, or government sectors.
- An academic or professional background in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Political Science, or a related field.

Job Type: Full-time.
Pay: $23.00+ per hour based on experience and certifications.

Schedule: Monday to Friday. Occasional weekly and weekend OT.
Availability: Immediate start available. Ability to commute/relocate to Asheville, NC 28801. Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required).
