What’s the Role?
Overview
The Business Analyst supports Underwriting Operations by helping translate business needs into clear requirements, process documentation, workflow analysis, testing support, and implementation-ready deliverables. Aligned to the Operations Matrix, this role is expected to develop capability across requirements gathering, process mapping, data analysis, UAT coordination, stakeholder engagement, cross-functional collaboration, quality assurance, and process improvement while operating proficiently with core business systems, Microsoft Office, and written communication.
Core Responsibilities
- Gather, document, and maintain business requirements with guidance, ensuring requirements are clear, complete, and aligned to underwriting operations needs.
- Document current-state workflows, support process mapping, and help identify inefficiencies, handoff gaps, and opportunities for improved standardization.
- Support UAT planning and execution by preparing test scenarios, documenting results, tracking issues, and validating that solutions meet business requirements.
- Analyze operational data, prepare status updates, and contribute to reporting that helps stakeholders understand process performance and issue trends.
- Participate in backlog, sprint, release, and change-management activities by supporting documentation, stakeholder communication, training materials, and adoption readiness.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Operations, IT, Product, Compliance, Finance, Claims, and other business partners to support cross-functional initiatives.
- Follow established quality, compliance, confidentiality, and control standards when preparing documentation, reviewing deliverables, and escalating issues.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, assignments, and projects as required to support the evolving needs of the organization, department, team, customers, and business operations.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Operations, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of business analysis, insurance operations, underwriting operations, process documentation, or related experience, preferably within commercial P&C, specialty insurance, or E&S lines.
- Developing capability in requirements gathering, process mapping, data analysis, UAT coordination, stakeholder engagement, cross-functional collaboration, quality assurance, process improvement, change support, and ethical conduct.
- Proficient in core business systems, Microsoft Office, and written communication, with ability to create accurate requirements documents, process documentation, status updates, and business communications.
- Awareness of vendor management, industry best practices, gap analysis, backlog management, sprint support, release coordination, business intelligence, presentation/facilitation, onboarding, and continuous learning expectations.
- Understanding of insurance operations fundamentals, underwriting workflows, policy lifecycle processes, regulatory/compliance considerations, and established operational standards.
- Experience with requirements/workflow tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Confluence, and reporting or analytics tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar platforms preferred.
