Position Summary

A business analyst (BA) is responsible for using data analytics to assess processes, determine requirements, and deliver data-driven recommendations and reports to executives and stakeholders. They play a crucial role in bridging the gap between IT and the business, ensuring that technical solutions align with business goals. BAs examine data, processes, and systems to help drive improvements in efficiency and productivity.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Requirements Collection and Evaluation: Collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and gather detailed business and functional/non-functional requirements.
  • Data Analysis: Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform business decisions.
  • Process Enhancement and Modeling: Mapping out current business processes, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending solutions for optimization.
  • Stakeholder Management and Communication: Effectively communicating findings, recommendations, and project updates to stakeholders and executives.
  • Solution Implementation and Testing: Overseeing the implementation of solutions and ensuring they meet business requirements through testing and validation.
  • Gap Analysis: Comparing current business practices and systems with desired future states to identify areas for improvement.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating potential project risks.
  • Creating Functional Specifications: Drafting detailed descriptions of system functionality and requirements.
  • Training and Support: Developing and delivering training to employees on new systems and processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitoring implemented solutions and gathering feedback to identify further optimization opportunities.
  • Change Management Facilitation: Guiding organizations and employees through transitions to new systems, processes, or strategies.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: To identify issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: To effectively liaise with various stakeholders and present findings clearly.
  • Data Analysis Proficiency: Experience with tools like SQL, Excel, and data visualization software (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Process Modeling and Documentation: Ability to map and document business processes using tools like Visio.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with software development methodologies, database management, and potentially programming languages like SQL.
  • Stakeholder Management Skills: To build relationships and manage differing needs and expectations.
  • Project Management Knowledge: To oversee execution and ensure project goals are met.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Typically required in a relevant field such as business, finance, or computer science.
  • Relevant Experience: Gained through internships, related roles, or project work.
  • Professional Certifications: Such as CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) or CCBA (Certification of Competency in Business Analysis) can be beneficial
  • Taft-Hartely industry knowledge a plus.
