About the role

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Construction Project Intern to support our Project Manager and work closely with our Superintendents across multiple commercial ground-up construction projects, primarily gas stations and convenience stores.

This position provides hands-on experience in both field and office construction operations. The intern will assist with project documentation, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, material procurement, site inspections, progress tracking, and closeout activities. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable visiting active construction sites, and interested in developing a career in commercial construction management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager with the day-to-day administration of multiple construction projects.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents to track jobsite progress, upcoming work, material needs, inspections, and subcontractor scheduling.
  • Visit active jobsites to document progress, take photographs, verify completed work, and report potential delays or concerns.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, site plans, and subcontractor scopes of work.
  • Assist with preparing and tracking RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, contracts, and project correspondence.
  • Help maintain project schedules, task lists, inspection logs, and construction documentation.
  • Follow up with subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, engineers, and other project participants regarding outstanding items.
  • Assist with material takeoffs, pricing requests, purchase coordination, and delivery tracking.
  • Confirm that required materials and equipment are scheduled to arrive before the corresponding work begins.
  • Help coordinate permits, utility releases, inspections, testing, and required project documentation.
  • Track construction activities involving sitework, underground utilities, stormwater systems, concrete, structural work, building systems, petroleum equipment, canopies, paving, and interior finishes.
  • Review subcontractor invoices and completed work with the Project Manager and Superintendent.
  • Assist with daily reports, meeting notes, progress updates, punch lists, and project closeout documents.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical project files.
  • Follow company safety procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Perform other project coordination and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in commercial construction and project management.
  • Ability to read or willingness to learn how to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills.
  • Comfortable working in both an office environment and on active construction sites.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn construction management, plan-review, and documentation software.
  • Ability to manage assignments across multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel between project sites.
  • Ability to walk active jobsites, climb stairs or ladders when appropriate, and comply with required personal protective equipment standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous construction, engineering, estimating, or project coordination experience.
  • Familiarity with commercial ground-up construction.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, CompanyCam, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with gas station, convenience store, petroleum, civil/sitework, or retail construction.
  • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain it.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus.
