About the role
Join Sheffield Hallam University as a Data Engineer and play a key role in shaping the University’s data landscape. You will design, build and maintain scalable data solutions that deliver valuable insights and support informed decision-making across the organisation. The role involves:
Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines to support reporting and analytics
Developing, optimising and maintaining data models that enable effective reporting, business intelligence and data-driven decision making.
Monitoring, troubleshooting and optimising data solutions to ensure performance and reliability.
Promoting innovation, security and continuous improvement by contributing to data engineering best practices, standards and governance across the organisation.
Supporting corporate change initiatives, ensuring successful technical delivery of transformation programmes, including the implementation of the University’s Data Strategy.
Designing and developing integrations, workflows and automations using low-code platforms, APIs, and modern integration technologies.
Collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders, analysts, and technical teams to translate requirements into scalable and sustainable technical solutions.
Creating, maintaining and enhancing technical documentations, data standards and knowledge libraries to support knowledge sharing.
Providing technical guidance and expertise to colleagues, supporting a culture of collaboration and development.
You will have;
Proven experience designing, developing and supporting ETL/ELT data pipelines.
Good understanding of data modelling principles and the creation of data solutions that support reporting and analytics.
Experience working with Microsoft data technologies.
A strong ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing business and technical requirements.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
An understanding of corporate change processes and the role IT plays in digital transformation.
Knowledge of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR).
