About the role

Who We Are

Umbrella Digital is a modern digital agency at the intersection of technology and marketing. We empower agencies, advertisers, and partners to execute more effective marketing campaigns with ease. Our services combine the strengths of a traditional agency with the flexibility to automate, attribute, and visualize performance metrics at scale. We specialize in data strategy, media planning, advertising operations, campaign execution, optimization, and advanced reporting and analytics.

To continue delivering exceptional service to our clients, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Analytics Engineer to join our data and analytics team and help build the next generation of our data infrastructure and reporting platforms.

The Role

You will be working on Nomad, our production marketing analytics platform, building and maintaining the data infrastructure and pipelines that power real client-facing reporting and analytics at scale. This is a hands-on data engineering role where you will contribute to and build data life-cycles across ingestion, transformation, validation, modeling, and delivery.

We practice Test-Driven Development and maintain high code quality standards. Every pipeline and transformation is backed by a test.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest and process high-volume data from advertising platforms and third-party sources
  • Write tests first. Every pipeline, transformation, and service boundary starts with a failing test: red, green, refactor
  • Define and enforce data contracts at ingestion boundaries using schema validation, catching upstream drift before it reaches downstream consumers
  • Model and transform data in support of BI reporting, predictive analysis, and client-facing dashboards
  • Build, contribute to, and maintain large-scale data processing pipelines
  • Collaborate across engineering, operations, and client services to translate business requirements into well-structured, tested implementations
  • Participate in code reviews, own your work through deployment, and contribute to the evolution of our core data architecture

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a production data engineering environment
  • Strong working knowledge of data-oriented patterns, type annotations, and writing testable, modular code.
  • Hands-on experience building and operating large-scale data processing workflows : batch, streaming, or both
  • Practical experience with Databricks, Spark, or equivalent distributed processing frameworks
  • Production experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
  • Working familiarity with NoSQL options (Redis, DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Advanced query authoring, optimization, schema design, and debugging across both OLTP and analytical workloads
  • Experience working within or building against large, distributed service ecosystems: REST APIs, async queues, event-driven patterns
  • Hands-on experience writing unit, integration, and pipeline tests.
  • Experience building or maintaining reporting pipelines and dashboards that serve non-technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster)
  • Exposure to streaming data platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub)
  • Experience working with ad platform APIs (Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, CM360)
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated release workflows (GitHub Actions)
  • Experience with shared data contracts or type packages across service boundaries
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field is preferred

How We Work

  1. Test-driven development is non-negotiable. Every pipeline and transformation starts with a failing test. We write the minimum code to make it pass, then refactor. This is enforced, not aspirational.
  2. Schema-first at boundaries. We validate what comes in from external APIs and upstream systems at runtime, because type annotations disappear after execution and upstream data changes without warning.
  3. Immutable data, pure functions. We favor functional patterns: composable transformations, early returns, and explicit data flow over stateful mutation.
  4. Small, incremental changes. Every commit leaves the code-base in a working state. Steady progress over heroic rewrites.
  5. Own it end to end. You are responsible for your work from design through production. If it breaks, you fix it.

Interview Process

Candidates will complete a live, proctored skills assessment before the interview stage. The assessment covers tested Python code and SQL debugging in a real-world scenario. It is designed to be fair and straightforward for engineers with relevant experience.

Compensation and Benefits

The final offer will depend on the candidate's experience, skills, and alignment with the role's requirements. Additional benefits, including bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package, further enhance the total compensation.

  • Salary: $90,000 - $110,000, based on experience
  • Bonus: 10% of annual salary after one year of service
  • 401(k
  • Health insurance: Medical, dental, and vision, with 50% of premiums covered by Umbrella Digital
  • PTO: 14 days per year, plus parental leave
  • Remote: Flexible remote work
  • Growth: Clear path to promotion with increased responsibility and compensation after one year

To Apply

If you care about data quality, take ownership of your work, and want to build infrastructure that powers marketing at scale, we'd like to hear from you.
