About the role

Position Summary

As a Development Engineer at Quantica Infrastructure, you will own the full technical lifecycle of our power infrastructure projects from early-stage feasibility through 30% design. This is a high-impact, hands-on role at the intersection of engineering, project development, and commercial execution. You will shape how our projects are designed, modeled, and advanced — working cross-functionally with development, finance, legal, and procurement teams to drive projects from site identification through EPC handoff.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup environment, wants true ownership, and is excited to help establish the technical infrastructure and standards that will define how Quantica builds for years to come.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technology standards, design templates, and repeatable deployment frameworks across the project portfolio.
  • Support the development of technical roadmaps for infrastructure projects aligned with company growth targets.
  • Micrositing and layout support
  • Contribute to engineering standard creation and knowledge transfer across the team.

Project Development & Feasibility

  • Conduct desktop site assessments to evaluate project capacity, energy yield, and constructibility risks.
  • Develop site constraints analyses and generate creative preliminary site layouts to characterize site conditions, risks, and project optionality.
  • Prepare or manage preparation of preliminary site layouts and assist in the creation and review of site constraints maps.
  • Provide energy production and performance estimates .
  • Capex modeling, project cost estimating; schedule building and cash forecasting
  • Work cross-functionally with project development, finance, and legal teams to evaluate project feasibility using site constraints and technology knowledge.
  • Prepare engineering quantities and information to support project budgets and schedules.

Technical Deliverables & Permitting

  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to assess and anticipate technical deliverable needs, including site surveys, geotechnical reports, hydrology reports, conceptual grading and drainage plans, and preliminary collection, substation, civil, and structural designs.
  • Support engineering deliverables for interconnection studies, grid compliance, and permitting packages.
  • Provide engineering and technical input to power purchase agreements, interconnect agreements, financial modeling, and other project development aspects.
  • Represent Quantica in development, permitting, and origination meetings on engineering and technical matters, including meetings with the public and regulatory authorities.

Owner's Engineer & Consultant Management

  • Help manage Owner's Engineers and third-party technical consultants (scope, schedule, budget) to advance projects through development to EPC team handoff.
  • Actively manage the early-stage design process with Engineering Team, EPCs and OEs to ensure alignment and clear handoffs.
  • Transfer engineering knowledge and risk profiles of assigned projects to execution team engineers during the pre-construction phase.
  • Conduct site visits for site evaluations and field verification.

Commercial & Stakeholder Support

  • Support bid preparation, RFP responses, and technical presentations to off-taker and financing counterparties.
  • Provide technical due diligence on potential sites and project acquisitions.
  • Reviews designs and calculations for quality control, performance optimization, and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and keep stakeholders informed of project progress.
  • Lead multiple projects simultaneously; manage competing priorities and overcome obstacles to meet submittal dates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
  • Development Engineer: 5+ years of engineering experience in the energy sector, with at least 1 year of experience designing utility-scale or commercial-scale BESS and/or PV projects.
  • Senior Development Engineer: 5+ years of engineering experience in the energy sector, with a minimum of 2 years designing utility-scale power infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working at a project developer, owner-operator, or EPC — or a demonstrated understanding of the project owner mindset.

  • Proficiency with design and modeling tools such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVFarm, or equivalent platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to support cross-functional efforts and deliver results under tight timelines and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders including finance, legal, and executive audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active pursuit.
  • Experience with BESS fire safety standards, degradation modeling, or lifecycle cost optimization.
  • Familiarity with energy storage interconnection requirements at the transmission or distribution level.
  • Prior experience mentoring or training junior engineers.
