Digital Nurse Implementer

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust’s Digital Service welcomes applications to this Digital Trainer role. This post plays an important role in delivering the Future Christie Programme, supporting the Trust’s ambition to provide modern, digitally enabled cancer services and ensuring our workforce is confident, capable, and supported to work effectively within an evolving digital environment.
This is permanent role within the Digital Services Digital Clinical. The Senior Digital Clinical Implementer will play a key role in delivering The Christie’s digital transformation agenda, including the Future Christie Programme. The postholder will lead the clinical implementation of digital systems, ensuring solutions are safe, effective, and aligned to patient-centred care.
The role will support staff through significant digital and service change, helping them to adapt to new technologies. A key focus will be supporting digital transformation, building digital capability, and ensuring safe deployment of digital technology.
Working across the full system lifecycle, the role will support the design, delivery and optimisation of digital services, promoting the effective use of data, technology and clinical informatics to improve patient outcomes, service efficiency and research capability.
The ability to travel to all sites where The Christie delivers services will be required.

The postholder will provide specialist clinical informatics expertise, working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams to ensure clinical and patient involvement in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of digital systems. This includes leading clinical engagement, training, testing and go-live support across a portfolio of projects.
They will lead digital clinical safety activity, including hazard identification, risk assessment and maintenance of clinical safety cases, ensuring compliance with national standards and safe system deployment.
The role includes leadership of training and change management activity, supporting workforce adoption and ensuring digital solutions are embedded effectively into clinical workflows.
The postholder will plan and manage a portfolio of digital projects, working closely with Digital Services, CCIOs, Digital Clinical Safety & Governance Officer, Digital Matron and clinical teams to deliver the objectives of the Future Christie Programme.
They will also contribute to audit, evaluation and continuous improvement, ensuring digital initiatives deliver measurable improvements in quality, safety and patient outcomes.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country.

We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years.

We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

The post holder will provide leadership for clinical staff at all levels regarding digital transformation to ensure successful implementation of technology that is clinically meaningful and benefits patient care and achieves expected outcomes.

The post holder will support the planning and implementation of digital transformation by working closely with the Project Manager and engaging with clinical teams, as well as with technical colleagues within Digital Services to improve the transformation.

The post holder will provide leadership for staff using informatics/technology, promoting the best professional standards in a technology field to support clinical practice. They will deliver presentations and demonstrate the product to all levels of clinical, administrative, and managerial staff in a manner that is appropriate for the audience.

The post holder will be responsible for digital clinical risk management, ensuring the Trust adheres to the relevant safety standards by leading the systematic application of management policies, procedures, and practices to the tasks of analysing, evaluating, and controlling clinical risk. The post holder will promote and increase awareness of digital clinical safety across the organisation, delivering related specialist education and training across the Trust and maintaining a record of this.

The post holder will design and participate in end user training regarding digital systems and processes including the creation and review of training materials. They will lead on the preparation of user guides and training materials and provide input into the structure of training sessions.

The post holder will lead and participate in business analysis activities to support and facilitate effective working.

The post holder will demonstrate a degree of flexibility when organising, managing, and planning workload, and will be able to work autonomously to plan and organise the key relevant stages of the project under the post holder’s area of work.

The post holder will work in collaboration with teams across the Trust to ensure that any quality improvement projects involving digital solutions have strategic oversight regarding the safety and implications of work carried out.

The post holder will take part in testing relevant software applications, document the results, and highlight any concerns that may relate to clinical use. They will use their clinical experience and judgement to determine the importance of any system deficiencies found during testing.

The post holder will ensure that any issues and change requests raised through the project are processed via the appropriate mechanism, ensuring any relevant risks and issues arising from the project are escalated appropriately.

The post holder will line manage the Digital Training team in line with appropriate policies, procedures, working practices and guidelines, ensuring all staff are deployed to maximise an efficient and effective delivery of digital services to patients and staff.

The post holder will use clinical knowledge, judgement, and experience to develop policies and procedures (and associated documentation) in relation to digital projects and for ‘business as usual’ teams following implementation.

The post holder will carry out audit work related to clinical informatics/digital systems, analysing data, and presenting findings across the relevant teams and meetings.

The post holder will represent the Trust in networks relevant to clinical informatics/digital agenda at local, regional and or at a national level. They will use these networks to share best practice and to bring information and new ideas back to the Trust team.

There may be a requirement for the post holder to undertake occasional weekend, out of hours and on call work, particularly during the implementation phase of clinical IT projects.
