We’re looking for a Field Service Engineer to join a highly dedicated team and help ensure the reliability and performance of their cutting-edge clinical diagnostic equipment across Western Australia and other states.

the organisation and the position

A leading manufacturer and distributor of IVD instruments and Research equipment is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their fast-growing team in Perth. As a key member of the Customer Care department, you’ll be the go-to technical expert supporting customers in laboratories and hospitals.

Your day-to-day will involve installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and optimising biomedical instruments, while also ensuring that clients receive top-tier support that meets both industry and company standards.

This role is perfect for someone with a strong background in mechatronics, biomedical, or electrical engineering (or related disciplines), who’s comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical service, repairs, and support to customers for diagnostic and research instruments (Haematology, Flow Cytometry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Histology, etc.)

  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, escalating when needed to minimise downtime

  • Conduct pre-installation surveys, installations, and preventive maintenance

  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Technical Support to enhance customer satisfaction

  • Support project roll-outs

  • Attend conferences and training sessions

  • Manage company assets and resources responsibly

  • Be part of a rotating on-call roster - as required, depending on operational needs and customer support requirements

  • Travel to customers' sites across WA, including regional locations (interstate travel is expected from time to time, mainly for training, team collaboration, and business requirements)

Skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechatronics, Biomedical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or related technical disciplines)

  • Experience supporting diagnostic, laboratory, medical device, or similar technical instrumentation environments

  • Experience supporting laboratory automation and related IVD technologies - Haematology systems is preferred, while Histology/Digital Pathology experience will be highly regarded

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a broad range of users

  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), middleware solutions and Linux operating systems is advantageous

  • Highly organised, self-motivated and able to manage competing priorities independently

  • Customer-focused with a proactive, collaborative approach

  • Current driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout Western Australia, including regional areas, as well as interstate when required.
