About the Role
Advance Global IT Support is looking for an experienced Freelance IT Field Engineer to provide on-site Smart Hands support at a client location in Antoine Drive, Houston.
The engineer will work alongside our remote technical team to assist with network connectivity changes, console access, cable patching, and testing.
This is a one-day onsite engagement with the possibility of future assignments based on performance.
Responsibilities
- Arrive at the site 15–20 minutes before the scheduled start time.
- Coordinate with the client's Point of Contact (POC) to gain access to the server room.
- Capture clear photographs of the server room, network equipment, and rack setup.
- Join the scheduled Microsoft Teams or TeamViewer session with our remote engineering team.
- Provide console access to network devices as requested.
- Verify newly installed ISP demarcation points.
- Patch the new ISP connection to the router.
- Disconnect the existing connection and connect the new patch cable under remote guidance.
- Perform connectivity verification after implementation.
- Assist with troubleshooting if connectivity issues occur.
- Label cables or equipment where required.
- Maintain clear communication with the remote technical team throughout the activity.
Required Skills
- Experience working with routers, switches, and network infrastructure
- Previous Smart Hands or Data Center support experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Ability to follow remote engineering instructions
- Professional communication skills
- Comfortable working independently onsite
Required Equipment
Applicants must bring:
- Laptop with a licensed Windows operating system
- Built-in RJ45 Ethernet port or a tested RJ45 adapter
- Tested console cable
- One spare tested console cable
- TeamViewer, Microsoft Teams, or equivalent remote support software installed and tested
- Labelling machine
