NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Duration

This position is funded for up to 471 total hours.

Enrollee will serve as a Historical Architect with recognized expertise in the principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques of preserving and rehabilitating historic structures consistent with the Secretary of the Interior?s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Must be a proficient technical writer with demonstrated experience of producing technical preservation guidance to both professionals and the general public in written and presentation/training formats.

• Develop guidance and training work products related to prioritized technical preservation topics related to historic buildings and structures (such as related to the evaluation of condition, repair, and replacement of historic windows; the replacement of historic curtain walls and commercial storefronts; compatible roofing replacement; etc.) for internal NPS, the tax incentives program, and public audiences. 60%
• Evaluate existing technical historic preservation materials and guidance, identifying shortcomings in the information provided, out-of-date technical information, and gaps where new information needs to be developed for historic buildings and structures to meet the needs of field practitioners. 15%
• Network and discuss issues and/or provide technical assistance to field practitioners to help identify guidance and training needs related to these topics. 15%
• Develop a strategic plan for the NPS to complete short- and long-term projects that will meet the needs of the field and update, fill gaps, and/or correct existing technical preservation materials. 10%
