About the role

As a Unix Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of critical Unix/Linux environments, ensuring the stability, security, and continuous availability of AIX, RHEL, and Debian platforms across on‑premises and cloud‑adjacent infrastructures. You will act as an L3 technical reference, supporting high‑availability systems, clustered services, and enterprise workloads.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and troubleshoot complex Unix/Linux environments (AIX, RHEL, Debian);

  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Unix/Linux systems and related components;

  • Operate and support high‑availability clusters (HP Serviceguard, Bull ARF, Pacemaker/Corosync);

  • Perform advanced performance and system diagnostics across CPU, memory, storage, networking, kernel, and applications;

  • Implement security hardening, permissions, SSH/PAM policies, firewall rules, audit logging, and vulnerability remediation;

  • Integrate Unix/Linux systems with enterprise authentication (LDAP/AD, Kerberos, SSSD);

  • Execute and validate backup, restore, DR, and failover procedures;

  • Automate operational tasks using Bash, ksh, Python, and Ansible;

  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance, ensuring proactive issue detection;

  • Collaborate with DBA, middleware, application, storage, backup, network, and security teams;

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures;

  • Provide L3 support and resolve complex incidents across Unix/Linux platforms;

  • Participate in on‑call rotations, ensuring rapid response and SLA compliance;

  • Plan and execute system migrations, lifecycle upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.

  • 5–10 years of experience in Unix/Linux administration in enterprise environments;

  • Strong expertise in IBM AIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Debian;

  • Deep knowledge of Unix/Linux internals: boot process, services, package management, filesystems, LVM, multipath, networking, logging, and performance troubleshooting;

  • Hands‑on experience with high‑availability clustering (Serviceguard, Bull ARF, Pacemaker/Corosync);

  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, ksh, Python, Ansible);

  • Solid understanding of security, hardening, permissions, PAM/SSH, audit frameworks, and compliance;

  • Familiarity with network protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP);

  • Experience with VMware or equivalent virtualization platforms;

  • Cloud knowledge (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus;

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Icinga, ScienceLogic, syslog, SNMP);

  • Relevant certifications (RHCE, LPIC, AIX) are preferred;

  • Fluent English;

  • French or Dutch are a plus.
