An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team supporting End User Technology at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

The ICT Directorate is responsible for all IT infrastructure and related services at GOSH including IT hardware & software and many clinical and non-clinical IT systems and applications, for example the Imaging suite and Microsoft 365 which encompasses email, Office, SharePoint and Teams.

The ICT End User Technology Team is integral to the smooth running of IT services.

The successful candidates will have a general IT knowledge covering the areas below:

  • General customer service, including strong rapport building and communication skills
  • Asking probing questions to aid troubleshooting with users that have varying degrees of IT competency
  • Use of ITSM tools
  • Creating, updating and generally maintaining documentation and the knowledge base
  • ITIL knowledge – Overview / Foundation
  • Using remote tools to assist with first time / line fixes

Main duties of the job

Some of the role’s main duties, responsibilities and expectations include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide first- and second-line support for Trust-approved devices and software
  • Take end-to-end ownership of assigned incidents and service requests, ensuring timely resolution within SLAs
  • Prepare, configure, and deploy endpoint devices (including imaging, application installation, and peripheral setup)
  • Identify and report potential security risks or policy breaches
  • Record and maintain accurate information within the Trust IT service management (ITSM) tool including troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and user communications
  • Support implementation of endpoint security controls (patching, device compliance, endpoint protection)
  • Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users in clinical environments

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) including English and Maths grades A-C
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant ICT qualification (e.g. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Fundamentals) OR equivalent practical experience in an IT support role
  • ITIL Foundation

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience providing IT support to end users in a service environment
  • Experience supporting Windows devices and common business applications
  • Experience of customer service / dealing with service users
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365/Office applications
Desirable criteria
  • Experience using an IT Service Management Tool and logging/managing tickets
  • Experience working in healthcare/NHS or a large complex organisation
  • Awareness of information governance, data protection, and information security in a workplace setting
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (e.g. Wi-Fi, LAN, VPN) and how to collect diagnostic information
  • Awareness of endpoint deployment/management concepts (e.g. imaging, software deployment, MDM)

  • Ability to follow procedures, prioritise workload, and escalate appropriately
  • Good written and verbal communication; able to explain technical issues to non-technical users
  • Organised, methodical, accurate record-keeping

  • Ability to work flexibly across Trust locations and occasionally outside core hours in line with service need
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to troubleshoot common endpoint hardware/software issues and peripherals
