Ready to make a splash in your career? WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Project Engineer - Mechanical (Full-Time, Permanent) to join our Built Infrastructure's Asset Options & Design team.


As a Project Engineer, you will be at the forefront of delivering critical infrastructure outcomes by guiding projects through the early planning and strategic assessment stages. You will provide technical leadership in defining asset needs, conducting engineering investigations, assessing asset performance, and developing innovative, value-driven solutions. Working closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, you will shape project scope, prepare technical specifications and influence key investment decisions. Location: Albury, Leeton and Wagga Wagga are the preferred locations for this role. We may consider Parramatta location as a second preference.

What you will do:


  • Coordinate asset condition assessments, analyse findings, and provide risk-based recommendations (OPEX and CAPEX interventions).
  • Cordinate technical investigations to quantify risks, understand root causes, and provide riskbased recommendations.
  • Coordinate options assessments through stakeholder engagement and by applying WaterNSW processes and standards. This includes identifying, developing and analysing options with consideration of lifecycle asset risks, performance and costs.
  • Coordinate detailed planning of non-technical project constraints, including environmental assessments, cultural assessments, community consultation, outages and strategic alignment.
  • Lead the development of concept design, Safety in Design assessments, constructability reviews, project risk assessment, cost estimates and value engineering.
  • Coordinate consultants and contractors involved in delivering condition assessment, technical studies, options and concept designs.

What we are looking for:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or higher) from a tertiary institution, or an Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering with relevant mechnical engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience in design, construction or maintenance in heavy industrial engineering or utility environments, and exposure to asset management of equipment relevant to WaterNSW’s asset fleet.
  • Experience in development of technical specifications including interpretation and knowledge of regulatory and other standards in developing those specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in determining appropriate solutions to technical challenges through evaluation of options.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards, including WHS, as they relate to the design and delivery of engineering aspects of a range of projects.
  • Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia and current NSW driver’s licence.
