Position Title: Project Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) (full-time)
Location: 42 Mercantile Way, Malaga, WA, 6090
Salary: 94,049 AUD annually (excluding superannuation)
Hours: 38 hours a week
Alloy Steel International (ASI) is seeking a pro-active, experienced Project Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) to join our team at our state-of-the-art 5,000 square metre Steel Mill and Manufacturing Facility in Malaga, Western Australia. ASI is a vertically integrated company with over 30 years of experience as a global leader in the design, manufacture, and supply of premium quality wear products for the mining and resources sector. Our flagship product, Arcoplate® — the world’s most wear-resistant fused-alloy steel plate — is exported to more than 25 countries worldwide and is trusted by customers across mining, mineral processing, and heavy industry. The Project Engineer is responsible for managing and delivering engineering projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring all work is executed on time, within scope, and to Alloy Steel International’s quality standards.
- Manage the full project lifecycle for assigned engineering projects, from scope definition and planning through to delivery, commissioning, and close-out;
- Prepare and maintain project documentation including project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, progress reports, and technical specifications;
- Design and model machinery parts and units, perform engineering calculations, and create manufacturing drawings, specifications, BOMs and other related technical documentation;
- Coordinate and liaise with internal teams, suppliers, contractors, and customers to ensure project requirements are clearly communicated and delivered to specification;
- Lead and support manufacturing process improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality;
- Oversee and support the commissioning and installation of new machinery and plant equipment, ensuring safe and effective integration into operations;
- Develop and program cutting plans for workshop machinery including laser cutting and waterjet systems;
- Review and verify all engineering outputs and documentation prior to release to the workshop, ensuring work meets Alloy Steel International’s quality and safety standards;
- Monitor project progress against milestones, identify and manage risks and issues, and escalate matters as required to ensure successful project outcomes.
Actively participate in all team meetings by demonstrating initiative, high levels of enthusiasm and a supportive team-oriented culture. Embrace and promote a culture of organisational teamwork and communication.
Actively and professionally represent the organisation to suppliers, contractors, and customers, with a key focus on developing strong, sustainable relationships.
Ensure all business activities comply with all relevant acts, legal requirements, and organisational policies – code of conduct. Adhere to and set high ethical standards.
Report any safety issues identified to the manager and conform to all WHS obligations and safety requirements when performing duties or in the workshop.
Develop and maintain effective business relationships with co-workers along with all suppliers, contractors, and customers.
Ensure all project and business activities comply with all relevant acts, legal demands, organisational policies, WHS obligations, and ethical standards.
Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to Alloy Steel International’s quality standards, ensuring all outputs are reviewed and verified prior to release.
All relationships are effective, add value and contribute to Alloy Steel International business objectives.
Projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, with nominated milestones consistently achieved.
Communication is pro-active up, down and across the organisation.
All activities meet compliance and WHS requirements.
Engineering outputs and project documentation are completed accurately and with minimal errors or rework.
Quality of work is mistake free and of a high standard.
- An Engineering degree at the level of at least Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent;
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a mechanical project engineering role, with a proven record of running engineering projects in the manufacturing, mining or related industries.
- Highly proficient in AutoCAD, Inventor and other related software; experience with project scheduling tools is advantageous.
- Good level of technical knowledge in mechanical engineering principles including design analysis, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, coordinate resources, and deliver outcomes within defined timelines and budgets.
- Exceptional time management with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing project demands concurrently.
- Strong multi-tasking and organisational skills.
- Proven experience across a diverse range of engineering projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
- An eye for detail and ability to produce quality drawings and project documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, drafting staff, workshop personnel, suppliers, and customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment whilst undertaking several tasks concurrently.
- Sound knowledge of engineering in a manufacturing environment, understanding the many manufacturing processes from design to manufacturing, quality control and delivery in full.
Pay: $94,049.00 per year
