About the role
To collect water and environmental samples from the Central Otago region, including, but not limited to, environmental monitoring sites, trade waste, reservoirs, water mains, wastewater treatment plants and customer sites in an approved manner. The role also includes laboratory-based testing as well as the preparation of samples to be sent to other Eurofins laboratories. The position will also include liaising with customers to coordinate their sampling requirements. The appointee will be expected to have the ability and skills necessary to work independently. Key roles are: -
- Plan and carry out the day's sampling programme to make best use of time and to travel the least distance possible
- Ensure that any interaction with public or clients is courteous, professional, and prompt to provide information and answer basic queries
- Collect samples ensuring no contamination occurs because of the sampling process and to carry out any on site measurements required
- Accurately record details relating to time, place, and on-site measurements
- Operate in accordance with the company's Quality and Procedures manuals
- Plan and carry out analyses to meet and preferably exceed customer expectations
- Process samples within the allowable time & temperature holding time under the requirements of the NZ Drinking Water Standards, Resource Consents and other applicable regulations
- Conduct in-laboratory analysis as required
In addition, other requirements of this position are:
- Comply with the company's Health and Safety procedures
- Inform the Laboratory Manager immediately of any problems with equipment or instrumentation or day to day work
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve service delivery
- Undertake additional tasks when requested
- Adopt the company's Lean Principles
- A full clean New Zealand Drivers Licence
- Certificate / Diploma in Laboratory Techniques; or equivalent qualification; or significant laboratory experience
- Experience in a commercial laboratory will be an advantage
- Experience working within an administration role or similar would be highly regarded
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to structure thoughts deliberately, logically and directly
- Knowledge of standard office applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
