About the role

The Sinclair SNOC Engineer supports the College’s Information Technology division, which includes nine functional areas: Information Security, Application Administration, Application Delivery, Application Development, End-User Computing, Network Operations Center, Server-Based Computing, Telecommunications, and User Support. Guided by the Information Technology mission to enhance student learning and success, the SNOC Engineer helps deliver reliable, secure, and effective technology services that support the College’s educational mission.

The Sinclair SNOC Engineer is responsible for administering and maintaining key enterprise systems, including OpsRamp (IT Operations Management), PaperCut (pay-to-print), and Veeam (backup and recovery), to ensure the health, availability, and performance of production systems and network infrastructure. This position develops and maintains monitoring and automation tools that enable User Support, the Help Desk, and IT Operations to efficiently identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technology issues. The SNOC Engineer also monitors security systems and events across the College’s infrastructure, helping to identify and respond to operational and cybersecurity concerns. Serving as a central technical resource, this role collaborates with stakeholders across the institution to support critical IT services and maintain a secure, resilient, and high-performing technology environment.
The salary for this position begins at $59,661.00 and is commensurate with education and experience.

This position is open only to applicants who reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform work within one of these states. Sinclair Community College restricts part-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, and benefits compliance requirements.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Use and maintain current ITOM to monitor Sinclair’s server infrastructure helping to maintain 99.9% uptime
  • Manage and maintain network management software (Extreme Management Center) to monitor our Enterasys/Extreme network infrastructure
  • Use network management technologies like NetFlow, ICMP and SNMP to troubleshoot TCP/IP networks
  • Provide administration and third level support for current Backup Software in a multi-site environment that utilizes data deduplication technology
  • Oversee and configure Sinclair’s campus-wide pay-for-print system, including managing the software and writing and maintaining SQL and ASP.Net custom code
  • Monitor security tools and logs to detect and initially triage threats and coordinate notification and initial response to appropriate teams to mitigate/resolve security incidents
  • Monitor the health and performance of security tools to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability, assist with vulnerability detection, alerting, reporting, and mitigation processes
  • Proactively search and alert on indicators of compromise and anomalous activity indicating potential hidden threats (APT), assist with security incident documentation, investigation, and remediation efforts
  • Use development technologies such as VBScript, Python, Bash, and Windows PowerShell to develop scripts to monitor and maintain critical services
  • Be available to work in an on-call rotation in a 24 × 7 production datacenter environment, including our off-site locations
  • Maintain and administer Linux and Windows servers both physical and virtual, and manage a large Windows network printing implementation
  • Use security practices to detect and initially triage threats coordinating with appropriate teams to mitigate/resolve security incidents
  • Assist with vulnerability detection, alerting, reporting, and mitigation processes
  • Assist in troubleshooting and data gathering for VoIP performance and Extreme Network Access Control issues

Requirements
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree and 5 years of professional work experience in Server/Client software installation and troubleshooting OR a bachelor’s degree and 2 years of professional work experience in an I.T. related field required
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously while providing great attention to detail and meeting all prescribed deadlines required
  • Ability to take initiative in completing assigned tasks but also playing an active role in successfully contributing to the Information Technology team and working well with all Sinclair co-workers required
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work well in an IT environment with multiple interdependent teams required
  • Maintaining Security+, or equivalent/advanced security certification is highly desirable
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
