Position Summary

The Division of Cardiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Senior Data Analyst to support an NIH-funded clinical research program focused on sleep, cardiovascular disease, and women's health. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with advanced quantitative training who is interested in contributing to high-impact clinical and epidemiologic research.

The Senior Data Analyst will serve as the lead analyst and data manager for an NIH R01-funded longitudinal cohort study and other related research projects. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator and an Associate Professor of Biostatistics to develop research databases, manage study data, perform statistical analyses, interpret findings, and contribute to scientific publications and grant applications.

Responsibilities

The Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for:

• Designing, developing, maintaining, and documenting secure research databases using REDCap and other database management platforms.
• Performing data cleaning, validation, quality assurance, and database maintenance to ensure data integrity and compliance with study protocols.
• Developing data dictionaries, coding manuals, and standard operating procedures for data management.
• Importing, merging, restructuring, and preparing datasets from multiple research sources for statistical analyses.
• Conducting statistical analyses using software such as R, SAS, Python, and/or Stata, under the guidance of the study biostatistician and Principal Investigator.
• Creating publication-quality tables, figures, graphs, and reports for manuscripts, presentations, NIH progress reports, and grant applications.
• Assisting investigators with interpretation of statistical findings and communicating results to multidisciplinary research teams.
• Collaborating in the preparation of manuscripts, scientific abstracts, conference presentations, and grant proposals.
• Monitoring study progress and generating recruitment, retention, and data quality reports.
• Working closely with investigators and study coordinators to resolve data discrepancies and ensure timely completion of study milestones.
• Maintaining compliance with Columbia University, NIH, HIPAA, and institutional policies regarding research data security and confidentiality.
• Participating in weekly research meetings and collaborating with faculty, research staff, trainees, and biostatisticians on ongoing projects.
• Performing other related duties as assigned in support of the research program.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Public Health, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, plus four or more years of experience in clinical, epidemiologic, or health services research involving statistical analysis and data management or the equivalent in education and experience.
• Experience using statistical software such as R, SAS, Stata, or Python.
• Experience managing research databases (e.g., REDCap, SQL, Access).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field strongly preferred; PhD candidates are also encouraged to apply.
• Experience analyzing longitudinal or observational cohort data.
• Knowledge of generalized linear models, mixed-effects models, survival analysis, or other advanced statistical methods.
• Experience working on NIH-funded research studies.
• Experience preparing tables, figures, and statistical reports for peer-reviewed publications.
• Interest in cardiovascular disease, sleep, women's health, or clinical epidemiology research.
