POSITION SUMMARY
Provides a key role in structuring the enterprise in terms of its processes, capabilities and technology. This incumbent aligns strategic goals and objectives with decisions regarding products and services; partners and suppliers; organization; capabilities; and key business and IT initiatives. This individual's primary responsibility is ensuring that the technological solutions in support business goals, requirements, capabilities and objectives are translated into detailed system architectural designs through use of process flow diagrams, future-state operational changes and technical solutions models.

Who will I be working with?
As part of the Enterprise Architecture Team, the Data Architect Role will work in collaboration with other Architecture roles to design solutions for various project types. In addition, the Data Architect role will work with both Development staff, Support staff and Business Partners to define and implement Data Standards and Governance across the enterprise.

More about the role:
The Data Architect role will work to implement TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) and is expected to set data architecture principles, create models of data that enable the implementation of the intended business architecture, create diagrams showing key data entities, and create an inventory of the data needed to implement the architecture vision.

What Will I Be Doing?
  • Quickly and effectively understand business issues and challenges
  • Elicit business needs and builds a trusted advisor relationship with business leaders to provide coaching and guidance on system architectural and design solution options based on understanding of industry trends and customer expectations
  • Serves as an integral member of the team that helps develop a consolidated business and technology roadmap to help ensure that resources, interdependencies and business priorities are effectively aligned
  • Manages multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Determine overall modeling standards, guidelines, best practices and approved modeling techniques and approaches.
  • Participate in due diligence of new software purchases by reviewing all proposed data models contained in packaged or commercially available applications.
  • Serve on data integration, business intelligence and content management
  • Work with business users to identify and document the key facts and dimensions necessary to support the business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain conceptual, logical and physical models, as well as metadata repository.
  • Identify the appropriate data sources with the assistance of the business analysts and conduct thorough data quality assessments on source data. Prepare prototype models to support development efforts.
  • Develop entity and attribute descriptions and definitions for the models. Ensure that conflicts in descriptions and definitions are resolved.
  • Describing data entities and relationships, master data, metadata, data quality, data cleansing, and data governance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Evaluate and select from existing and emerging technologies to best fit business and project needs.
  • Define and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support business and analytical needs
  • Identify and document key data entities, attributes, and relationships required to support enterprise systems
  • Assess data sources and perform data quality evaluations to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability
  • Support data integration, business intelligence, and analytics initiatives through structured data design and modeling
  • Build a trusted advisor relationship with business leaders to provide coaching and guidance on system architectural and design solution options based on understanding of industry trends and customer expectations
  • Translate complex topics, concepts and business opportunities into possible system architectural and design solution options that will help Mecklenburg County take advantage of market opportunities or overcome business challenges; create a standard set of EA work products including business capability models, logical architecture models, and physical architecture models that enable the organization to achieve the value identified with high quality.
  • Work successfully with and on Agile teams
  • Develop and maintain standard enterprise architecture artifacts, including business capability models, logical architectures, and physical solution designs, ensuring consistency and quality across initiatives
  • Determine overall modeling standards, guidelines, best practices and approved modeling techniques and approaches
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise governance and policy requirements
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise data, security, and governance policies, supporting regulatory compliance and responsible use of data

Administrative:
  • Participation in Candidate Interviews - participate in interview process for new hires and in identifying skill set for new positions.
  • Contributions to Business Process - Lead and engage ongoing committees and teams.
  • Professional Development - improve professional skills and develop connections with industry peers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Minimum of six years of progressively responsible programming experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted: Yes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Data Migration Tools, Azure Data Lake Experience, Azure Data Factory Experience, Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, Big Data Concepts, Master Data Management.
  • Data Analysis, Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Warehousing, Database Design, Proficiency in both Oracle and SQL Server.
