About the role
ABOUT LASARRUS
LASARRUS Clinic and Research Center is a Baltimore-based medical device and digital health company developing WearME, a wearable and mobile platform designed to improve monitoring and care for people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Our work is supported by NIH funding and collaborations with clinical and academic partners.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a motivated Software Developer Intern to help build and test Unity and mobile software for WearME. You will work under the technical direction of our Lead Software Developer and collaborate with our CEO, UX/UI, clinical, QA, and regulatory teams.
This role is designed for a current student, recent graduate, or emerging developer who can demonstrate practical Unity/C# work through coursework, personal projects, research, or prior experience. We value clear evidence of skills, thoughtful debugging, dependable communication, and a willingness to learn.
Initial work will focus primarily on LASARRUS's Unity applications, with potential future contributions to React Native mobile applications.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Build responsive Unity user interfaces from Figma workflows using reusable components, including UI Toolkit and TextMesh Pro where appropriate.
- Connect patient dashboards, charts, status indicators, and application workflows to Firebase/Firestore and approved REST/JSON services.
- Support BLE and sensor-connection experiences, including connection status, user notifications, error handling, and recovery behavior.
- Test and debug Android and iOS behavior across device types; reproduce issues and provide clear test evidence for fixes.
- Work in Git feature branches, open pull requests, respond to code-review feedback, and help maintain clean integration practices.
- Create concise technical documentation, test notes, release notes, and implementation records that support LASARRUS quality and medical-device development processes.
- Participate in Monday reviews, communicate progress and blockers early, and complete approved deliverables with appropriate guidance.
WHAT YOU BRING
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrable Unity and C# project experience, supported by a portfolio, repository, build, video, or other work sample.
- Working knowledge of Git/GitHub and collaborative development practices such as feature branches and pull requests.
- Comfort reading or creating JSON data and working with REST APIs, SDKs, or comparable application integrations.
- A structured approach to debugging, testing, documenting results, and asking focused technical questions.
- Clear written and verbal communication, reliable follow-through, and availability for the mandatory Monday onsite schedule in Baltimore.
Preferred Experience
- Firebase, Firestore, Cloud Functions, or another cloud data platform.
- Android/iOS Unity builds, mobile release workflows, or cross-device testing.
- BLE, connected devices, sensor data, notifications, or recovery workflows.
- Unity UI Toolkit, TextMesh Pro, Figma handoff, automated tests, or QA tooling.
- React Native, React, TypeScript, or comparable cross-platform mobile development experience.
- Bonus familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, GitHub Copilot, or comparable tools, including validating generated code and following applicable security, privacy, and code-review requirements.
- Healthcare, digital health, privacy-aware software, clinical research, or regulated product development.
