RC Fornax is looking for a Software Engineer – Advanced Signal Processing & AI. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team developing cutting-edge software solutions for advanced sensing, tracking, data fusion and artificial intelligence applications within complex maritime and defence environments.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop and maintain software solutions supporting advanced signal processing, sensor fusion and tracking applications within maritime and defence environments.
  • Implement, optimise and maintain production-quality software using C++, Python and related technologies.
  • Develop software for sensor modelling, data processing, state estimation, anomaly detection and information fusion.
  • Apply software engineering best practices, including automated testing, continuous integration and configuration management.
  • Collaborate with systems, algorithms, hardware and verification engineers throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Support software integration, debugging, performance tuning and system-level testing activities.
  • Convert research concepts, algorithms and prototypes into scalable, maintainable and robust software solutions.
  • Contribute to technical proposals, innovation programmes and future product development initiatives.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, software designs and verification artefacts.
  • Support the delivery of software solutions that meet performance, quality and security requirements.

Required Experience & Skills


  • Degree qualified in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong software development experience using C++, Python or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience developing software for complex engineering, scientific, aerospace, maritime or defence systems.
  • Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns and modern software engineering practices.
  • Experience working within Linux-based development environments.
  • Proficiency with source control and collaborative development tools such as Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop effective software solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and support software verification activities.

Desirable Experience


  • Advanced Signal Processing (ASP).
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques.
  • Sensor fusion, multi-sensor integration and state estimation algorithms.
  • Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems.
  • Tracking and target estimation applications.
  • Data analytics and anomaly detection techniques.
  • Real-time and embedded software development.
  • Defence, maritime or other safety-critical engineering environments.
