Software Engineer

Location: Southampton, England, UK

Type: Temporary - Permanent

About Robosys Automation:

At Robosys Automation, we develop advanced autonomous control and AI navigation systems that are transforming how vessels operate.

Our flagship VOYAGER AI enables crewed and uncrewed craft to navigate safely and efficiently across global waters. As we continue to grow internationally, we are looking for a Software Engineer to join our UK team in Southampton and support the delivery of mission-critical marine autonomy systems.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly capable Software Engineer to design and build real-time control and monitoring applications that interface directly with hardware, sensors, and industrial systems.

Working closely with systems, controls, and hardware engineers, you will develop high-performance backend software using C# / .NET, operating close to the metal in safety-critical environments. This is not a purely web-based role — it requires strong systems thinking and hands-on problem-solving.

What you will do:

  • Develop high-performance applications using C# / .NET
  • Build multi-threaded, asynchronous, event-driven systems
  • Implement TCP/IP and UDP socket communications
  • Interface with hardware including CANbus devices, sensors, and controllers
  • Implement and decode protocols such as:
  • Parse CAN frames, PGNs, and device-specific messages
  • Develop real-time data processing and control logic
  • Design secure APIs for telemetry, monitoring, and command & control
  • Debug and optimise system performance, latency, and reliability
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, controls, and systems engineering teams

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years’ experience in backend, systems, or software development
  • Strong proficiency in C# and .NET / .NET Core
  • Experience with TCP/IP networking and asynchronous programming
  • Strong debugging and systems-level troubleshooting skills
  • Experience interfacing with hardware or sensors is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with NMEA 0183 / NMEA 2000, maritime, robotics, or autonomous systems is a plus
  • Docker, Azure, or safety-critical software experience advantageous

Why join us:

  • Be part of a company shaping the future of marine autonomy
  • Work on real systems deployed on operational vessels
  • High-impact, hands-on engineering role with clear ownership
  • Collaborative, technically strong team
  • Opportunities for growth as the company scales internationally

Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Company events
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
  • Sick pay
