Primary objective
Provide Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) multi-disciplinary technical advice and services to internal and external
stakeholders to ensure appropriate standards of sustainable building design, construction, maintenance and operation are
achieved. Conduct investigations and assist the continuous improvement of building life-cycle performance.

Context Statement
Design and Technical Services ensures that Northern Territory Government building infrastructure meets high standards of
quality and remains client-focused, while being safe, reliable, accessible and sustainable throughout its entire lifecycle.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide technical advice, recommendations, written reports and administration assistance on a range of matters related

to sustainable buildings and NT Government infrastructure.
2. Review new works and equipment replacement designs and provide advice from a sustainability perspective.
3. Support the implementation of a range of initiatives related to sustainable NT Government built infrastructure.
4. Assist with research and analysis of current and emerging trends in sustainable building infrastructure, national standards

and guidelines and relevant legislation.
5. Assist with collection and analysis of building energy and water use data and identification and implementation of

performance improvement opportunities.
6. Establish an excellent working relationship with all stakeholders and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing,

on all matters relating to NT Government building sustainability;

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Certificate IV in a building design/engineering services discipline.
2. Knowledge of building sustainability technical issues and opportunities relevant to Top End and Central Australian

buildings - or ability to develop, preferably relating to energy efficient Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems.
3. Ability to oversee collection and analysis of building energy and water use data.
4. An understanding of, or ability to develop an understanding of, DLI procurement and contract administration

requirements and processes.
5. Well-developed research and analytical skills with proven experience in solving complex problems and delivering timely

outcomes.
6. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including the abilities to write short reports and effectively consult

and collaborate and build strong working relationships with colleagues, external clients and industry representatives.
7. An understanding of Work Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and environmental protection principles.
