The Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Team Lead to join a high-performing engineering team delivering modern applications and platform services.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on leading a team of engineers while driving engineering excellence across software development, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and DevOps practices. You will play a key role in designing and delivering scalable Java-based solutions, establishing CI/CD best practices, improving platform reliability, and mentoring engineers to achieve high-quality delivery outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership experience, deep expertise in Java development, and a passion for automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers and platform specialists.
• Design, develop, and support enterprise applications using Java 11 and modern engineering practices.
• Drive the adoption of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles across delivery teams.
• Design, implement, and optimise CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineering teams to deliver scalable and reliable solutions.
• Ensure application reliability, availability, performance, and operational resilience.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability frameworks.
• Participate in architecture and technical design discussions, providing leadership and technical guidance.
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues and delivery challenges.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and engineering excellence.
• Drive software quality through code reviews, testing standards, and release governance.
• Support incident management, root cause analysis, and service improvement initiatives.
• Champion automation across development, testing, deployment, and operational processes.
• Contribute to technical strategy, platform roadmap planning, and engineering best practices.

What You'll Need

• Experience in Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience developing applications using Java 11.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles and modern software engineering practices.
• Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of DevOps methodologies and automation practices.
• Experience with containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar platforms.
• Proven experience supporting highly available, reliable, and scalable applications.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and incident management skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership capabilities.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, or other Agile project management tools.
• Exposure to enterprise-scale digital transformation or platform modernisation initiatives.
• Experience implementing SRE practices including SLAs, SLOs, error budgets, and service performance management.
