Your next career opportunity
In this Technician role, you will support hands-on teaching and research across busy workshops and makerspaces. You will provide technical advice, design and build bespoke rigs, and coach students in safe, industry-aligned practice.

What you will deliver:

• Provide practical technical advice, design input and fabrication services that enable high-quality teaching, research and projects.
• Engage directly with students and academics, supporting competency-based training, project work and effective learning outcomes.
• Coach and mentor workshop and makerspace users in safe tool use, machinery operation and compliant work practices.
• Undertake Safety in Design activities and ensure all manufactured work meets safety, compliance and documentation requirements.
• Operate, service and maintain workshop equipment, reporting issues and supporting reliable, well-managed technical facilities.

You may be a great fit if you:

• Hold a relevant degree or trade qualification, or equivalent experience in technical workshop environments.
• Bring proven expertise in one or more areas such as machining, fabrication, mechatronics, electronics or woodwork.
• Demonstrate experience with additional technologies like CAD, embedded systems, robotics, AI, automation, plumbing or gas fitting.
• Offer strong communication skills and a customer service mindset when supporting diverse students and staff.
• Demonstrate a growth mindset, contributing practical improvement ideas for training, processes and user experience.
• Prioritise safety, holding or willing to obtain a Working with Children Check and relevant high-risk licences.

You will join the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology’s Infrastructure team.
This team powers safe, high-quality technical spaces that enable world-class engineering and IT teaching and research. Within the Workshop, Makerspaces and Engagement group, you will support hands-on projects and inclusive learning environments.
You will collaborate with skilled technicians and academics, share knowledge, and develop your capabilities across diverse technologies. Together, you will help shape future engineers while supporting a culture of safety, innovation and continuous improvement.
