We provide language training, and cultural capability services across a range of sectors including Defence, government, not-for-profit organisations, and the corporate sector. Operating nationally, our team brings extensive experience in language education, cultural awareness, and workforce capability development.

We are seeking two experienced Tok Pisin Language Developers to support the Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) in the development of the Tok Pisin Module One Course.

About the Defence Force School of Languages

The Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) has been supporting the Languages Other Than English (LOTE) capability of the Australian Defence Force Organisation for over 75 years. It provides members with language skills enabling them to carry out various duties domestically and internationally.


Contract Details

  • Contract Period: 24 August to 11 December 2026
  • Location: Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL), RAAF Williams, Laverton VIC
  • Hours of Engagement: 35.00 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
  • Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract
  • Number of Positions: 2

Successful candidates will undertake up to three (3) days of Defence-provided training during the contract engagement.


About the Role

The successful candidates will work as Tok Pisin Language Developers to assist the Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) with the development of the Tok Pisin Module One Course. Working under the direction of DFSL's Development Wing and Course Design Team, successful applicants will contribute to the development of language learning materials, online learning activities, assessments and supporting resources designed to develop Australian Defence Force personnel's Tok Pisin proficiency. The developers may also be required to assist in the delivery of the course under the guidance and supervision of DFSL staff.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will assist with all aspects of Tok Pisin Module One course development, including:

  • Develop Module 1 training materials to the required standard following Course Design Cell templates.
  • Produce audio recordings to support course materials.
  • Create supporting Moodle-based activities for the Tok Pisin Module One training package.
  • Select suitable authentic Tok Pisin texts and produce language activities based on these texts.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments as per the Module One Assessment Plan.
  • Work collaboratively with DFSL development staff and subject matter experts.
  • Potentially support delivery of the Tok Pisin course when required.
  • Participate in Defence-directed training and onboarding activities.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or a tertiary qualification in teaching / education.

Experience:

  • High level of proficiency in Tok Pisin.
  • Language Other Than English (LOTE) teaching and curriculum design experience (preferably with adults).
  • Sound knowledge of different approaches to language teaching.
  • Sound knowledge of the history, politics, society and culture of the required language.
  • High level of proficiency in both written and spoken English.
  • Sound computer and IT skills in the development and delivery of training materials.

Highly Desirable

Applicants with experience working at DFSL or other similar facilities they will be highly regarded.

Security Requirement

Successful candidates will be required to provide a Police Check valid within 28 days prior to contract commencement.

Rates of pay will be commensurate with your relevant skills and experience, and your employment will be on a fixed-term contract basis with Fortis Consulting, subject to contract award.
