The main duties of the Trainee Cost Schedule Analyst are to set up and maintain cost control systems to monitor cost and schedule performance across contracts requiring a validated cost and schedule control system. This includes analysing performance, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with agreed parameters and government cost control guidelines. The role also involves developing and maintaining budgets and schedules, and supporting financial analysis including forecasts, funding profiles, and variance analysis.
In addition, the role involves preparing program plans to capture requirements and statements of work, conducting schedule risk assessments to identify and mitigate risks, monitoring expenditure and funding levels, and maintaining accurate financial records and forecasts. It also incorporates contractual changes into control systems to maintain accurate and realistic cost and schedule baselines.
About us:
Your responsibilities will include:
- Support the establishment and maintenance of project cost, schedule, and risk frameworks and baselines across new and existing programs to support delivery of project objectives.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining project rhythms (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) for status, analysis, and reporting in line with business and customer requirements.
- Develop and maintain cost and schedule baselines, including resource-loaded schedules, control account structures, RAMs, and incorporation of approved baseline changes.
- Integrate risk and schedule margin tasks into schedules based on risk registers and guidance from Project Managers (PMs) and Cost Account Managers (CAMs).
- Maintain project planning documentation and systems, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and accurate reporting of actuals, forecasts, and estimates.
- Support project analysis and reporting, including variance analysis, trend reporting, ad hoc reporting, and implementation of approved corrective actions.
About you:

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g. Finance, Commercial, or Project Management) from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the Defence industry) would be highly regarded.
Skills ideally required for the role include:
- Exposure to scheduling and Earned Value Management (EVM) principles, including Critical Path Method and baseline control.
- Basic understanding of accounting and budgeting principles.
- Strong computer literacy with the ability to prepare, analyse, and interpret reports.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and relevant project management tools and systems (e.g. Open Plan Professional, Cobra).
As well as the above any experience in the following is highly desirable:
- Project administration experience.
- Experience in a customer-facing or liaison role.
