About the role

This is a volunteer-based opportunity offering hands-on experience in user experience design, front-end development, and faith-based technology innovation.

About Faithwork:

Faithwork is a platform and movement dedicated to helping individuals live out their faith in every area of life. Rooted in the belief that faith is a transformative force, we are committed to fostering a community where faith permeates every facet of daily life.

We partner with churches, ministries, and creators to create meaningful events, experiences, and opportunities that inspire connection, spiritual growth, and real-world impact. Our mission is to encourage and equip individuals to integrate their faith into their everyday lives — at home, at work, and within their communities.

Faithwork is more than a platform; it is a growing movement focused on advancing God's work and uplifting His people. We strive to inspire, encourage, and celebrate the power of faith as a guiding light in today's world.

Role Overview

The UX/UI Developer Volunteer will lead the design, refinement, and visual presentation of the Faith & Events page and the broader Faithwork website — creating an aesthetically pleasing, intuitive, and trustworthy experience that reflects the mission and beauty of what Faithwork is building. This role sits at the intersection of design and front-end development, translating our brand identity and community vision into a digital experience that users love the moment they arrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and continuously refine the Faith & Events page — including layout, visual hierarchy, typography, color usage, and interactive elements — to create an experience that is visually engaging, faith-native, and immediately intuitive to first-time users
  • Design and implement website updates, landing pages, event category pages, hero graphics, and page layout enhancements that strengthen Faithwork's brand presence and improve user engagement
  • Build and maintain a consistent design system across the Faithwork platform — including reusable UI components, brand-aligned styling, and standardized visual patterns that scale across the ecosystem
  • Collaborate with the Events & Experiences and Community Partnerships teams to translate operational needs into visually elegant, easy-to-navigate user flows — including event discovery, ticketing, church onboarding, and ministry partner portals
  • Own the front-end user experience for event discovery, ticketing checkout, user profiles, and creator dashboards — ensuring every screen feels intuitive, trustworthy, and beautiful
  • Design responsive, mobile-first experiences that reflect Faithwork's primarily mobile audience — ensuring every page performs and looks excellent on any device
  • Identify and resolve UX friction points through user testing, feedback analysis, and iterative improvements — maintaining a platform experience that retains users and earns trust from ministry partners and creators
  • Produce visual assets, promotional graphics, social media templates, and marketing collateral aligned with the Faithwork brand for use across the platform and outreach efforts
  • Contribute to the visual design of Faithwork's retreat and premium experience booking flow — ensuring these high-value features are presented with the elevated aesthetic they deserve
  • Document design decisions, component libraries, and style guidelines clearly to support a growing team and ensure long-term consistency beyond any single contributor.

Impact

  • The look and feel of Faithwork is often the first impression a user has of the platform — and this role directly shapes whether that first impression converts a visitor into a registered user
  • A visually beautiful, intuitive Faith & Events page is one of Faithwork's most important assets in earning trust from ministry partners, creators, and the young adult community we serve
  • Design decisions made in this role directly drive conversion — from event discovery to ticket purchase — making UX/UI a foundational lever in reaching Faithwork's 5,000-user growth goal
  • Contributes to a visual and experiential foundation that scales beyond the launch phase, positioning Faithwork as the most trusted and best-designed platform in the faith technology space.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong graphic design experience with proficiency in Figma (strongly preferred), Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement visually appealing website layouts, landing pages, graphics, and user interface improvements from concept through to launch
  • Proficiency in front-end web development with hands-on experience in modern frameworks — React, Next.js, or Vue.js — and comfort translating designs directly into working code
  • Strong command of HTML, CSS, and responsive design principles, including modern CSS frameworks (Tailwind, styled-components, or similar)
  • Experience designing and building mobile-first, responsive experiences — with an eye for how designs adapt across devices
  • Understanding of design systems, component libraries, and the discipline of visual consistency across a growing platform
  • UI/UX sensibility that goes beyond aesthetics — you care whether the experience feels intuitive, welcoming, and trustworthy to a faith-based audience
  • Working knowledge of version control workflows using Git and GitHub, and familiarity with deployment tools such as Vercel or Netlify
  • Familiarity with third-party integration touchpoints from a design perspective — including payment flows (Stripe), authentication interfaces, and marketing tools — so designs can accommodate real-world platform requirements
  • Strong communicator who can collaborate across non-technical teams and translate community and business needs into clear, elegant design solutions
  • Self-directed and comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and ownership is wide
