About the role
We’re on a mission to make banking 10x better.
At 10x Banking ("ten-ex banking") we’re transforming the financial industry with our cloud-native core banking platform. Our talented team has built the world’s first 'meta core' - a new category in core banking technology. 10x's platform powers global banks and financial institutions including Chase UK, Old Mutual and Westpac.
We offer a diverse, global community that thrives on innovation and collaboration. Tackling exciting challenges with the utmost integrity, we aim to make a positive impact through our work for our clients, their customers and the communities we work in.
Be part of something bigger – join us and transform an industry.
About the role
Platform Engineering provides the foundation for our next generation banking platform, delivering the runtime environment that abstracts our feature teams from the underlying infrastructure.
Our tech stack
The surface area here is broad, this isn't just "something running in Kubernetes". You'll help look after the whole platform, spanning many domains and multiple AWS accounts, so there's always a new corner to dig into.
- Networking: ingress and egress, DMZ and cluster networking, load balancers, cross-account, cross-region, and cross-VPC networking, and B2B integrations with third parties.
- Security: authentication and authorisation (OAuth, mTLS), IAM and security configuration, service mesh, egress filtering, and HashiCorp Vault.
- Data: Aurora PostgreSQL and database performance, Kafka, and caching.
- Platform and infrastructure: Kubernetes on AWS, orchestrated with Terraform, and the management layer that ties it all together, providing tier 1 grade resilience and 99.99% availability for our customers.
- Tooling and CI/CD: Go and Python for our operational tooling, with Jenkins and Concourse CI (plus various code linting and validation tools).
- Feature Team services: built on Java / Spring Boot / Quarkus, though you'll deal with these less directly.
About you
You know that "perfect is the enemy of great", and that software engineering isn't about admiring problems but about collaborating to find solutions that work.
We believe great communication is one of the best skills you can have, as well as the motivation to learn and achieve results.
We believe diversity of thought is crucial in helping us find broader solutions to tough challenges. We have dedicated teams with bags of experience, so the engineers we recruit can stretch their talents regardless of domain background.
Our stack is wide and, on any given day, almost any part of it might need attention. We're after someone keen to get stuck into whatever comes up, so if you're only interested in one narrow area (say, just CI/CD), this probably isn't the role for you.
About the team
As a Platform Engineer in our Sydney team, you will be part of an open, collaborative, and innovative environment, working on a platform responsible for the money of millions of people.
We value transparency and realism over theatre. Nobody memorises everything, real engineering is figuring things out: reading docs, asking teammates, searching, and increasingly reaching for AI.
We treat AI as a supporting tool, the same way we've always treated a search engine, and we care far more about how you think through a problem than whether you can recite an answer from memory. You'll be trusted to use good judgement about when a tool helps and when it doesn't.
We work flexibly. Rather than mandating three or four days in the office like a lot of companies now do, we choose to come in two days a week, which is a balance that works well for us and one we genuinely enjoy. We treat each other like grown-ups and trust people to do the right thing rather than leaning on hard rules.
Requirements
Ideally, you will have:
- A strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals, knowing why you write code a certain way, rather than deep expertise in any single language
- A passion for quality and testing best practices
- Hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes supporting scalable production systems
- A good baseline understanding of the current state of AI in software development, and how to use it
If you also have experience with any of the following, we'd love to hear from you:
- Working with multi-region use cases
- Running fully managed Kubernetes clusters in the cloud
So, if you're interested in what we're building and excited by our mission, please get in touch!

10x Ways of Working
We recognise that a better work/life balance can improve people’s motivation, performance and overall wellbeing.
